Salary range $6,333,301 – $8,517,586  per annum

  • The Data Scientist/Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing data-driven solutions to address critical challenges within the AGD. The incumbent will serve as a strategic data analytics specialist in the Information and Technology Division of the AGD, focusing on the analysis and management of large-scale data from various sources and provides data-driven insights and solutions. In this position, the Data Scientist/Engineer gains exposure to almost all elements of the Department’s business and will be instrumental in improving financial reporting, preventing fraud and optimizing resource allocation and public financial management. The Data Scientist/Engineer aids all relevant units with data analysis, reporting and dashboard solutions that will enable the AGD to achieve its strategic goals and operate within the AGD’s approved risk appetite.

Primary Duties:

  • Design, develop and implement data pipelines for extracting, cleansing, and transforming financial data from disparate sources within the AGD.
  • Utilize advanced data analysis techniques (statistical modeling, machine learning etc.) to identify anomalies, trends and patterns in financial data.
  • Develop and maintain data quality metrics to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data used for analysis.
  • Build and deploy data visualization tools (dashboards, reports etc.) to effectively communicate complex financial data insights to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts across the AGD to understand business needs and translate them into actionable data analysis projects.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest data science and analytics tools and technologies, recommending and implementing new approaches to further enhance data management and analysis capabilities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures for the AGD.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other departments on data-related initiatives.
  • Conduct comprehensive and large-scale data analysis, interpretation and assessment, with a view to formulating solutions to various challenges within the public financial management context.
  • Provide effective reporting of analyses back to relevant stakeholders of the AGD, including the creation of visual models, to represent the possible outcomes and clearly communicate the findings.
  • Provide clearly articulated reports and presentations within strict timeframes that communicate complex ideas and technical jargons into simple terms appropriate for the audience.
  • Make recommendations about how the AGD obtains and analyses large scale data to improve the quality of the Department’s data overall.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with senior management and other staff members of the AGD.
  • Develop and maintain effective networks with contractors and industry colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors through well-developed written communication and business cases.
  • Resolve problems, challenges and other risks, adopting and adjusting to change and its processes.
  • Set priorities, plan workloads, meet deadlines and achieve objectives through the efficient use of time and resources.
  • Effectively implement business and operational plans.
  • Liaise effectively with staff and key stakeholders across a diverse range of activities.

Qualification and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field (or a Bachelor’s degree with significant experience).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or similar and familiarity with SQL for database querying.
